SPACE PHYSICS

The Space Physics Team brings together scientists with an interest in the physics of the space environment.

Members of this world-class team, whose roots extend back in time more than 30 years' are engaged in:

research on the plasmas found in the solar atmosphere
interplanetary space
planetary magnetospheres including that of the Earth
neutron and planetary physics

The team combines expertise in:

space instrumentation
data analysis and interpretation
space plasma theory

The team carries out an extensive program of instrument design and development for experimental invest igations on a variety of DoD and NASA satellites and space probes. The experimental aspects of this program have a natural synergism with the team's programmatic responsibilities in the areas of nuclear test ban treaty verification and non-proliferation. The team's expertise in data analysis and interpretation as well as its knowledge and understanding of the space environment are essential ingredients of any successful space-based program.
